MotoGP San Marino yang digelar akhir pekan ini menjadi seri ke-13 di musim 2013. Itu akan jadi balapan kandang Valentino Rossi karena rumahnya hanya berjarak 10 km dari sirkuit. Berikut angka-angka lain terkait race tersebut.

50 - Keberhasilan Marc Marquez duduk di posisi dua pada balapan sebelumnya di Inggris mencatatkan rekor baru buat pebalap Honda berusia 20 tahun itu. Itu merupakan podium ke-50 Marquez sepanjang kariernya di balapan Grand Prix. Di usia 20 tahun dan 196 hari Marquez menjadi pebalap termuda yang berhasil mengumpulkan 50 podium, dia mengalahkan rekor sebelumnya milik Dani Pedrosa yang berusia 21 tahun dan 162 hari saat berhasil mengoleksi 50 podium.

50 - Pada hari balapan di Misano, Minggu (15/9/2013) mendatang, itu akan menjadi perayaan 50 tahun Giacomo Agostini melakukan debutnya pada balapan Grand Prix di kelas 250. Agostini melakukan debutnya di Sirkuit Monza dengan mengendarai Morini. Dia kemudian menjadi legenda balap motor Italia dan dunia, di mana dia delapan kali menjadi juara dunia kelas 500 cc yakni di tahun 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, dan 1975.

15 - Sebelum balapan tahun ini, MotoGP San Marino total menggelar 15 event. Dua balapan pertama digelar di Imola tahun 1981 dan 1983, eventnya lantas berpindah ke Mugello (1982, ‘84, ‘91 dan ‘93) dan sisanya sembilan kali di Misano (1985, ‘86, ‘87, 2007, ‘08, ‘09, ‘10, ‘11 dan ‘12).

3 - 3 balapan terakhir MotoGP menghasilkan tiga pebalap Spanyol di atas podium: Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa dan Marc Marquez. Ini adalah kali pertama pebalap-pebalap asal Spanyol memborong podium di tiga balapan beruntun pada kelas MotoGP.

Estoril - Hasil kualifikasi MotoGP Portugal menempatkan Jorge Lorenzo di posisi keempat. Menurut Lorenzo, itu adalah hasil maksimal yang bisa diraih karena ia merasa tak nyaman dengan motornya.

Dalam sesi kualifikasi di Estoril, Sabtu (5/5/2012) malam WIB, Lorenzo hanya mencatatkan waktu tercepat keempat. Ia berada di belakang duo Honda, Casey Stoner dan Dani Pedrosa, serta Cal Crutchlow yang ada di tiga posisi terdepan.

Ini adalah untuk pertama kalinya Lorenzo tak meraih pole di Estoril sejak tahun 2008. Di empat MotoGP Portugal sebelumnya, rider Yamaha ini selalu memulai balapan dari posisi terdepan.

"Masalah utama untukku hari ini adalah di tikungan 1 dan 2 aku tidak bisa masuk dengan agresif jadi aku banyak kehilangan waktu di sesi ini," sahut Lorenzo seperti dikutip oleh Autosport.

"Secara umum motorku tidak memberiku rasa nyaman jadi catatan waktu ini adalah catatan maksimal yang bisa aku raih hari ini."

Lorenzo memprediksi balapan hari Minggu (6/5/2012) besok akan berjalan sulit. Meski demikian ia tetap berharap bisa menjalani balapan dengan baik.

"Kami ada di posisi empat tapi besok akan sulit karena aku harus melewati Cal (Crutchlow) yang merupakan pebalap yang suka mengerem dengan keras. Aku akan tetap berpikir positf dan melihat apa yang bisa kami lakukan," pungkasnya.

Estoril - Jorge Lorenzo Absen free practice I Estoril Potugal. Tampil sebagai rider tercepat adalah rekan Lorenzo di Yamaha, Ben Spies.

Pada sesi yang dihelat di sirkuit Estoril, Jumat (4/5/2012) sore WIB, hujan kembali turun meskipun tak lama. Tapi itu tetap membuat sebagian trek basah.

Ada dua pebalap memutuskan tak turun dalam sesi free practice itu termasuk Lorenzo yang tetap berada di dalam paddock. Selain ia ada Hector Barbera.

Spies yang turun membalap akhirnya tampil sebagai yang tercepat dengan waktu 1 menit 40,813 detik. Rider Amerika Serikat itu mengungguli duo Ducati, Nicky Hayden dan Valentino Rossi.

Melengkapi urutan lima besar adalah pebalap Repsol Honda, Casey Stoner, dan pebalap Gresini Honda, Alvaro Bautista.

Cal Crutchlow, Andrea Dovizioso, Dani Pedrosa, Yonny Hernandez dan Karel Abraham berurutan berada di posisi ke-6 hingga ke-10.

2011 Japan GP: Bridgestone MotoGP Race Debrief With Hirohide Hamashima

Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix was a dramatic event with three riders penalised for jump-starts and being given ride-through penalties, five riders crashing out in separate incidents and another four recovering and rejoining after running off-track. All weekend the pace was very quick, as a combined result of partial resurfacing work to repair damage inflicted by the earthquake earlier this year, machine development over the past 12 months and the selection of softer compound rear slick tyre options for Motegi this year. On Saturday a new pole position record was set by Casey Stoner and in the race Dani Pedrosa set a new lap record. Pedrosa took his first premier class victory at the Honda-owned Motegi circuit ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, whilst Stoner recovered from running off track to finish third. With three round remaining in the championship, Stoner holds a 40 point lead over Lorenzo and mathematically has his first chance to seal his second World title at his home round in Australia next time out.

Why were the laptimes so much faster at Motegi this year?
"It is true that the laptimes were quite a lot faster this year – Casey's pole time was 1.8seconds faster than last year and Dani's new lap record was one second under the previous record and also 1.3seconds faster than last year's fastest race lap.

"Although of course it is very difficult to quantify exactly, I believe the main reason for this improvement is the partial resurfacing of the circuit that was conducted to repair the damage caused by the March earthquake. Approximately 75 per cent of the circuit's surface is new and there have been many races since the tarmac was laid, including most recently the IndyCar series race two weeks ago, so the grip level is very good. It is also very smooth which adds to its advantage.

"I think there are two other factors too – the hard work of the teams and the development of the machines since last year, and secondly we selected softer rear tyre options for Motegi this year and I believe this contributed, specifically on Saturday during qualifying.

"Last year, all riders raced on the medium compound rear that showed good performance and had no problems at all, which was then the softer of the two options. This year, Dani won using the same medium compound rear, but because we have gone one step softer, it was the harder of the two available options. On the same tyres, his fastest race lap was 1.3seconds faster than the best from last year, which shows combined bike and track improvements, but in qualifying when most riders recorded their best laps on the newly-allocated soft rear, the improvement over last year was 1.8seconds, so I believe this is the difference made by the softer rear tyre allocation. Based on this, we can see that bringing the soft compound rear here was worth around 0.5seconds a lap."

Softer rear slicks were selected this time after rider requests for better warm-up – what was the feedback?
"Using the soft compound rear slicks for the first time at Motegi meant that the qualifying times in particular were faster, as I said above, but also it meant that race tyre choice was more mixed. Last year, everyone used the medium compound rear tyre for the race, but this year six riders used the medium and the remaining 12 starters chose the soft compound, which provided an interesting comparison of performance. Warm-up performance was certainly improved, even when race-day track temperature was only 26 degrees Celsius, the lowest of the weekend. But I am also happy that so many riders could get it to work consistently over race-distance, and the fact that so many used it tells me that it was right decision to revise our allocation for this year, and in doing so directly answer rider calls this year for softer compounds that reach their optimum working temperature more quickly."

Yamaha boss Wilco Zeelenberg says Jorge Lorenzo’s tyre choice was wrong at Brno – MotoGP news

Yamaha Factory Racing boss Wilco Zeelenberg has explained that a soft compound tyre for the Brno GP was a wrong choice by Jorge Lorenzo.

Defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo chose to race with softer compound unlike other rivals who opted for hard slicks. Rizla Suzuki’s Alvaro Bautista was the only other rider to choose a softer version.

Zeelenberg said, “We know the Brno track is hard on the front and as soon as you hear the rider wants to have the softest option, you have some doubt. You want to know if it will hold for the race and Bridgestone said yes. It did because our soft tyre looked better than the hard one Ben (Spies) had at the end of the race.”

The Yamaha team boss also explained the comparative condition between hard and soft compounds. Zeelenberg said that the soft compound tyre was in better condition after the race than the hard compound tyre that was used by other Yamaha rider Ben Spies.

On the other hand, the disadvantage of the soft slick was that it gave less traction under breaking and hampered the turning speed. Considering the qualifying round the situation was different, which let Lorenzo to choose soft tyre.

Zeelenberg added, “That’s racing and sometimes it is not as obvious as you think it should be. We are racing with a bunch of guys with a lot of experience and normally we choose exactly the right spot.”

In previous races, the Yamaha factory riders have made the right decisions every time, but this time it cost Lorenzo to lose precious points in the championship. To further testify the tyres the team used same slicks during the post race test at Brno. It proved to be the key to failure in the race.

At a point when only one rider on the grid has different choice than others, it is important to think whether it will work or not.

However, after a disappointing race day at Brno, Lorenzo is 32 points adrift of Casey Stoner and looks ahead to the Indy GP to close the gap from Aussie.

Yamaha Factory Racing's Jorge Lorenzo pulled a dramatic last lap pass of Casey Stoner in Sachsenring, Germany Sunday for second place, thereby reducing Stoner's overall lead to just 15 points as they head into Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend.

The popular 2007 champion from Australia now riding for Repsol Honda leads Lorenzo of Spain 168-153 as the best road racers on two wheels prepare for the Red Bull United States Grand Prix Friday through Sunday at Mazda Raceway.

Spaniard Dani Pedrosa rode his Repsol Honda to victory Sunday and jumped two spots to fifth in the world classification with 94 points.

Texan Ben Spies, on the Factory Yamaha, moved up in the points total with Sunday's fifth-place finish and has tied compatriot Nicky Hayden, "the Kentucky Kid" who won the world title in 2006, at 85 points to share sixth place in the World Championship standings.

At 2.238 miles (11 turns), Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the shortest circuit in the MotoGP series. Yet that distinction also makes it one of the most technical and physically-demanding tracks for riders to navigate. The elevation changes and The Corkscrew's plunging blind left-right-left will keep riders' full attention.
