Former 500cc World Champion Doohan says Stoner might surpass his and Rossi's records – MotoGP

Former 500cc GP World Champion Mick Doohan states that his compatriot Casey Stoner is likely to surpass his achievements and even has a chance to surpass Valentino Rossi's records.

Doohan said, "I think he'll at least have five years to push the way he's pushing now so he could easily surpass what I've done, and perhaps even Valentino Rossi. The future is looking good for Australian motorcycling."

The five-time World Champion has said that Stoner holds a lead of 40 points on Jorge Lorenzo and has stood strong through the ongoing 2011 season. The young Aussie has only missed one event in which he could not finish on the podium.

During the Jerez event Rossi banged into Stoner and swept him along into the gravel while earning his only 'did not finish' in the 2011 season.

On the contrary, the championship runner up Jorge Lorenzo is also in strong hunt for the 2011 MotoGP title. There are three events yet to cover with 75 points to be taken.

Lorenzo's performance was also praised by the Aussie veteran. Doohan added that Lorenzo is a fine rider and can give a tough time to Stoner.

Doohan further said, "Lorenzo is a tough opponent, he's very consistent and very rarely makes mistakes. That's not to say it can't happen. There's about a 75 per cent chance that will happen."

Recently, Stoner finished third on the podium at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit which made him lose four points from his lead. The upcoming home event at Phillip Island can bless him with win and a lead of 50 points over Lorenzo.

At the moment during the start of the 2011 MotoGP season, Casey Stoner stated that he has dreamt of racing like Mick Doohan. Stoner has also the desire to race with the team Doohan did.

The young Aussie rider also said that it is nearly impossible for him to achieve the same success story as Doohan has earned during his career.
